Appreciate The Gift of Faith

From today’s reading…

For this reason, it depends on faith,

so that it may be a gift,

and the promise may be guaranteed to all his descendants,

not to those who only adhere to the law

but to those who follow the faith of Abraham,…”

Paul is driving this point home in Romans again: strict adherence to hundreds of memorized, ceremonial laws is not enough to save you.

Sure, it may be fine or even advisable to learn how to paint by starting with a color-by-number book, but to be a great painter you must internalize what the rules are teaching you and then let your greatness flourish in ways that only you can do.

Likewise, following the 10 Commandments and “not breaking any laws” is a great start, but you must allow the faith God has freely and generously given you to take over and guide your actions to do the right thing, even if that means apparently breaking a lesser law to bring about a greater good.

You’ll only know when that is the acceptable action to take if you…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
