Absalom My Son

From today’s reading…

He said as he wept,

‘My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!

If only I had died instead of you,

Absalom, my son, my son!’” 2 Sam 19:1

Absalom had led an army against his father for quite some time but David gave instructions to his troops

Be gentle with young Absalom for my sake”

because loving our children is what fathers do, even when they act up. Even when they disobey.

Which is why David wept at the news of his son’s death.

Imagine the love it took for God the Father to volunteer His Son to die for us.

Imagine His sorrow as He sees us disobey, act up, lash out, and kill His Son with our daily sins.

Even so, He loves us and regardless of how far off track we’ve gotten, He merely wants us to turn around and…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
