A Woman Clothed With The Sun

From today’s reading…

God’s temple in heaven was opened,

and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple.

A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun,

with the moon under her feet,

and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.”

The ark of the covenant contained three things:

  1. The 10 Commandments, i.e. the Word of God.

  2. Some of the manna the Israelites received in the desert, i.e. the Bread of Life

  3. The rod of Aaron, the brother of Moses, that budded, i.e. the symbol of authority used by shepherds to guide and correct his flock.

As we prepare for the birth of Jesus, we are reminded how He personified everything that was in the ark of the covenant (and even Noah’s ark, but we can discuss that later).

If Jesus personified what was in the ark, then that makes Mary the new ark of the covenant.

No Mary. No Jesus. Know Mary. Know Jesus. She’s the “great sign (that) appeared in the sky” to help us…
