A Mighty Champion

From today’s reading…

All those who were my friends

are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

‘Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail,

and take our vengeance on him.’

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion:

my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.’”

Jeremiah was not happy with how he was being treated but he knew the Lord was on his side. (And Jeremiah wasn’t above wanting to “witness the vengeance you take on them.”

The prophets of the Old Testament were strong, brave, and resilient.

They were also human and influenced by the “eye for an eye” system of justice, which is shown on many occasions throughout the Bible.

I think God knows we are weak and prone to take manners into our own hands if we don’t control our passions so He conveys stories like this to let us know He will hold those who commit evil, those who plot against those who do His will, accountable, which means all we have to do is…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
